2008 Thanksgiving Tournament Opportunities:
Tournament Volunteer Schedule can be found within the TOURNAMENT pages of our website, or click HERE to view. We have many shifts to fill on Nov. 28, 29 and 30th. In some cases, tournament hours can be used toward your non-tournament volunteer hours.
Ice Scheduler for STORM teams. We will have 3 ice schedulers next year - one for SW teams, one for SLP teams and one for STORM/combined teams. Here are the responsibilities for the STORM scheduler:
- Helps to define season ice requirements (part of ice committee)
- Receives ice from SLP and Southwest Ice Schedulers; combines into one list for Storm scheduling
- Participates in game scheduling for all Storm teams (both D1 and D3)
- Allocates ice to Storm teams
- Maintains a database or spreadsheet of all Storm ice, showing how it is allocated to teams.

District 1 Squirt Coordinator
Runs the Squirt year end Festivals along with the PeeWee C and Bantam C Festivals. Either SWHA provides a new Squirt Coordinator by the April meeting or there will be no Squirt and C Festivals next year. District 1 Representative
Minneapolis-Park Storm District 1 Representative handles communication between the District and our Association. Attends monthly meeting with other D1 Association Reps, and the District 1 Board, to discuss District 1 activity. Meeting generally held the first Monday of each month. Meetings start in August. ICE COMMITTEE MEMBER - This committee will work to obtain more ice and better hours at our main facility, Parade Ice Arena. Committee will form a strategy for working with Washburn hockey association to work directly with Parade as well as lobby local city representatives. We need three parents to work with our President, Steve Jecha to make sure our ice needs our met as our program continues to grow. Contact Steve Jecha: steve@jecha.com
Mite Awards Pucks - We need three mite parents to work with coaches on providing certificates and "level achievement" STORM Pucks. This year we are emphasizing skill development at each level. SKATE Coordinator - Skaters Keep Achieving Through Education is a program which teaches kids the importance of education and how education comes first before hockey. Coordinator would work to set up the SKATE program for SWHA players and then work with SKATE level coordinators to distribute information to parents and players. District 1 Tournament Contact/Coordinator - Each association in District 1 has been asked to provide a coordinator to help District 1 pull together the end of the year tournaments and festivals. Official Game Puck Coordinator. We are encouraging our coaches to "catch kids doing something good" in games this year - whether it is scoring a goal, a great assist, great defense, offensive play, or goaltending. Each game one or two game pucks will be given by the coaches to players. Coordinator will "warehouse" and provide Team Managers with "Official STORM Game Pucks" and charge each team when purchased at cost. Contact Steve Jecha: steve@jecha.com
Create Welcome Package for Out of Town Thanksgiving Tournament Families. We expect to have out of town teams for our tournament this year. Volunteer will create a "welcome" package for those teams to be provided at check-in at their hotel. This packet might include a welcome letter, maps of the three hockey venues, discount coupons for area restaurants or activities, a MN treat, etc. (non-tournament hours) Contact: Teri Nester at 612-927-6994.
Tournament Volunteer Scheduler. FILLED - THANK YOU!
This is a big job that will keep you especially busy the last two weeks or so before the Thanksgiving Tournament. You will receive and process e-mail (or phone) shift requests from SWHA families. You will schedule and confirm volunteers for all three tournament venues. The schedule must be updated frequently (especially the last few days) and posted on the STORM website. Committee Members for District 1 Tournaments. We could use 3-5 people to be on the District 1 Regional/State Tournament Committee. They would help with running the Regions and State Tournament including the U12B/U14B State Banquet. EACH Association provides volunteers. Storm Year-End Awards Event
There are always several spots available for the awards banquet - usually held in March. All jobs will count towards 3 non-tournament hours. Assists the District Director and is responsible for registering and approving hockey tournaments hosted by District 1 teams during the year like our Thanksgiving Minneapolis Cup. 2-3 people are needed to sell advertising for the Thanksgiving Tournament program which is an 8.5 X 11 booklet handed out to all attendees. You will distribute money at the start of the day, collect money throughout the day and be available via cell phone at all times for 2 venues. Sue Mart is a parent who has spent countless hours running the concessions during our tournaments (with the help of many volunteers). We are looking for someone who is willing to serve as an "assistant manager" giving Sue some time to watch her own kids play hockey! This job is all about keeping the website up to date and helping to train team managers and coaches on how to update their own pages. There is no experience necessary - the website is easily updated. It is an ongoing position that lasts throughout the year and includes a stipend which can be applied toward your hockey fees. The Bantam A team is getting small (4" X 4") VFW League patches that need to be sewn on each of their 3 jerseys, 51 of them.
